On most occasions, we check obituaries. When an obituary includes a detail we find interesting, we add that person’s name to a list of potential subjects. The only criterias are that a) the subject must be dead and b) the subject must have lived in Oklahoma at some point in their lives.

How are interviewees chosen?

Goodbye Tulsa focuses on the individual’s role in the community, so in many cases, we may choose to interview a co-worker or friend instead of (or in addition to) a family member.

I was asked to be interviewed for Goodbye Tulsa. What kinds of questions will I be asked?

Interviews are conversational in manner, and always respectful. We don’t prescript questions, but you can expect us to ask about your recollections of the deceased. It’s helpful if you can share stories that you feel exemplify the person, or provide a special insight into their life.

Do I need permission from a deceased person’s family member before I do an interview?

While it’s good manners, it isn’t necessary. Your relationship to the deceased is your own and does not require permission from their family or friends.
